What's Going On In Room 18.....

Reading and Writing
Reading and Writing is a BIG part of our day! Every morning we review literacy and writing skills using a Morning Wake Up Journal and Quick Writes. We practice Reading, Writing and Spelling in Daily 5 Centers every day. Daily 5 is an All-Star favorite!
We spend 30 minutes each morning on Word Work, learning sight words and phonetic patterned words.  We have learned about the short vowel sounds, digraphs, blends, long vowel sounds and bossy e words
.
We are also learning about the different genres and the author's purpose in literature, too. Ask your child to tell you the genre of the stories that they read to you at home, and if the authors purpose was to persuade, entertain, or inform them.
Please help your child to become a stronger reader by reading for 20 minutes each night. Don't forget to record their books on their Monthly Reading Logs and return by the last school day of the month in their homework folders.

Math
Math is also a very big part of our day. We review basic Math Skills daily with Quick Math and our Morning Wake Up journals.
We use a program called Engaged New York for our general Math Curriculum. Although it is a challenging program, I am so impressed with the growth I have seen in Math. We have learned many addition and subtraction strategies, how to find counting patterns, and ways to make and take from 10.
We have Guided Math Centers each week, during which students get to practice math facts, use technology, play math games, and work with the teacher. We are really becoming Math All-Stars!
Upon entering our room, you may hear the students say,...
"Numbers make patterns, and patterns make Math
easy"! Please remember if your child is having a hard time with their math homework, every lesson has a video available on you tube. Just type in Eureka Math Module__ Lesson___.
