Parent Coordinator: Liason - Martinez

Greetings! My name is Laura Martinez, school social worker, and this is my 18th year at School District 150.  I am super excited about this  school year.  I am the social worker/parent liaison for the pre- kindergarten and early childhood program at Greenwood School and the social worker for McKinley School.
Generally I am at Greenwood Elementary on Mondays and Thursdays and at McKinley School on  Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Social work duties include but are not limited to:

  •        Providing direct intervention,crisis intervention, and support.
  •        Linking students and families with school and community  resources
  •        Encouraging families to effectively participate in their child's education. This is often done through workshops,make and takes, and other events throughout the school year.
  •        Collaborating with school personnel to assess student's social and emotional obstacles to academic success.
  •        Meeting with families to understand and address obstacles to learning.
  •        Presenting social work lessons to the children. Topics include sharing, friendship, feelings,  abuse prevention and general child safety.
