Hello! My name is Danielle Rayski.  I am the physical education/health teacher at Greenwood Elementary School.

       Every class at Greenwood meets for PE class twice a week.  One day a week is a 50 minute class period, while the other is only a 35 minute class period.  Every student needs to have proper gym shoes on gym days in order to participate (see chart below to see which days your child's homeroom teacher is scheduled for PE).  It is highly recommended to leave an extra pair at school for days we go outside in the damp grass and/or days you forgot to wear gym shoes.

      Beginning second quarter, each class will meet in the health room on their short day of PE to receive a structured health lesson. This will only occur on full weeks of school, to ensure that all students still have one day of their activity PE time.   There will be a total of 8 health lessons for each grade level.  Health grades will be averaged into the students' PE grade.

Each PE lesson is broken down into the following categories:
*2-4
*3-4 minute warmup jog (focus on warming up muscles, pacing, cardiovascular endurance, and moving safely)
*2-4 minutes of strength training exercises
*Instruction/demonstration of lesson/activity
*LESSON/ACTIVITY (this time varies depends on if it is their short day or long day of PE)
*5 minutes closure of lesson with a cool-down of stretching to improve flexibility, water break and dismissal.

~~~During the 50 minute class periods, students will receive extra fitness training through student-lead tabata sessions.
How do students earn their grade???
80% of a student's grade is comprised of his/her daily grade:
Each day a student attends PE class, he/she will be trying to earn all 5 points available for the day.  The breakdown of the daily grade is as follows:
1 point for coming with proper gym shoes
2 points for full and active participation and effort in lesson
2 points for S.T.A.R.S behavior (sportsmanship, teamwork, attitude, respect, safety)
20% of your student's grade will be made up of projects, skills tests, written tests, peer and self-assessments, and  fitness assessments.
