Homework
Reading Resource Homework

First and Second Grade

In order to help your child be a more successful reader, I will send home sight word rings and books to practice at home.  I know your child will have other homework, so I ask that you spend only 10 minutes each day on the work I send home.  Please help your child learn the sight words (read “on sight” without sounding out.)  Also, have your child read 1 or 2 books each night to you.  They should be able to read the books by sounding out the words, using the picture cues to help them or by reading the sight words.  I am sending home several books to practice so that you both do not become bored reading the same books each night.  Remember, only read 1 or 2 books each night.  We don’t want our children to work so hard that they dislike reading and I don’t want to stress YOU out!

Each week I will send the work home in a storage bag with a homework chart to initial that the work has been done.  Please keep the books, sight word ring and the homework chart in the bag and return on Thursdays.  Any adult, or responsible teenager, may help and initial the homework chart.

Thank you for your cooperation.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at [email protected] or call the school and leave a message.  I will return your call as soon as possible.

Third Grade

Homework will consist of reading an assigned book, answering questions and practicing a fluency passage each night.
